May is National Bike Month…and in Provo we celebrate in style. Take a look at what is happening during our celebration of Bike Month 2014 and join us for some incredible events.

5/10 CycloFemme RideCycloFemme is a socially-driven grass-roots celebration of women on bikes. We are of a growing community, for a growing community, and 100% volunteer-based. Ride with us as we Honor the Past, Celebrate the Present, Empower the Future of Women in Cycling. LADIES: meet at 1pm Meet at University Ave and Center St for a ride to Joaquin park (400 N 400 E) for a picnic and raffle. Gentlemen: at 1:130pm Meet at Joaquin park for a picnic and to support women on bikes.

5/12 Monday Night Night Ride -  Meet new friends through this leisurely, low-pressure evening ride. 9pm at Joaquin Park  (400 N. and 400 E.)

5/13 Bike Tuning Workshop – Free bike clinic at the Provo Bicycle Collective Shop. Learn the basics like pumping up tires, adjusting brakes and lubing chains. This workshop is to empower you to fix your own bicycle, not a free tune-up. 6pm at the Provo Bicycle Collective (1100 W 49 N Unit 2).

5/14 Mayor’s Ride – Annual “UTA Bike to Work Day with the Mayor in Provo City.” Free helmets for first 50 participants, short ride with the Mayor, no-cost bicycle safety inspections, and much more. 7:30-9:00 a.m. at the Historic County Courthouse building on the corner of University Avenue/Center Street in downtown Provo. Actual ride begins at 8…but come early for the celebration and giveaways.

5/14  Cycling Shorts – Grab some popcorn and sit back for an enjoyable presentation of short bicycling films at the Provo Bicycle Collective. 7:30pm at the Provo Bicycle Collective  (1100 W 49 N Unit 2).

5/15 Food Truck Roundup Cruiser Ride – Join with bicyclists of all ages to for a slow, social cruise downtown. The ride will end at the Startup Building’s Thursday night “Food Truck Round-up” where valley food trucks of all kinds park side-by-side and tempt you with their delicious offerings. 7 pm on Thursday at Joaquin Park (400 E. 400 N.)

5/16 Bike Prom – What do bow ties, flowers, and bike pumps have in common? The Bike Prom! Ask a date or come with friends to Provo City’s first Bike Prom at the Provo Rec Center. Take a leisurely ride together through Provo to visit some local iconic sites. Then finish the night with dancing, a DJ, desserts, mocktails, and a free photo booth (ages 16+). Kids Club available for children ages 4-12 during the event, no additional cost. Tickets are $5 in advance and $10 at the door. To sign up click here or visit provo.org/signup. Meet at Kiwanis Park (820 N 1100 E)  6:00pm for a stylish ride around town. ‪Dance 8-10 at the Provo Rec Center (320 W 500 N) for ages 16+.

5/17 Bike Carnival -  Bring your family and friends to celebrate bikes carnival-style! Gather at Exchange Park, just off the Provo River Trail. There will be free popcorn, carnival games, temporary bicycle tattoos, and much more. If you like, bring a plain white t-shirt for a special “Bike Provo” stencil painting to commemorate the day. Noon at Exchange Park (900 N. 750 W.)

5/17 Gear Swap Fundraiser for High School Cycling Teams – Buy and sell tons of bicycle and related (outdoor) gear. $10 to sell. This fundraiser benefits High School Utah Cycling teams (Mountain View High, Provo High, Timpview High, Timpanogos High, Orem High School Teams). 9 am – 2 pm at Mad Dog Cycles Orem (360 E 800 S in Orem)

5/17 Babes on Bikes – Spend a leisurely afternoon with the ladies of the Bicycle Collective with open shop time and networking with other bicycle-friendly women in a friendly environment. 3-4pm at the Provo Bicycle Collective (1100 W 49 N Unit 2).

5/21 Ride of Silence -  Join cyclists worldwide in a silent slow-paced ride to: honor those who have been injured or killed, raise awareness that bicyclists are on the street, and ask that we all share the road. All ages are invited. Helmets required. 6:30 p.m., starting at Dixon Middle School (750 W. 200 N.)

5/21 Utah Valley Earth Forum May Meeting: Lecture on “Car-free Spaces ” -  BYU Professor Shawn Miller will lead a discussion on car-free spaces for the UVEF. Audience participation is encouraged and refreshments are provided. 7pm at the Provo Library.

bikecollectiveProvo Bicycle Collective Open Hours – The Provo Bicycle Collective will be open to provide workshop space and answer bicycle-related questions on  Thursday 1-7, Friday 2-6 and Saturday 10-3.
