Provo Bike to Work Day 2011

I just got back from Provo Bike to Work Day and I’m happy to report that the event was definitely worth waking up for! This year we had more cyclists than ever before.

Mayor John Curtis (shown here giving the motorcycle officer a fist bump) led the group on an early morning ride around the city.

Provo City offered free bicycle registration, Bingham Cyclery provided complementary bike tune-ups, Jamba Juice and Einsteins passed out goodies, and UTA offered bike free swag including rear lights.

Of course, the Provo Bicycle Committee was on hand to give out our new Provo Ride Guide, tell everyone about the exciting Bike Week events we have lined up, and encourage riders to take our survey.

There was also a raffle for a pretty incredible bike from Provo’s surplus supply that Bike Committee Chairman Zac Whitmore fixed up. Congrats to the lucky winner!

A HUGE thank you to everyone that came out in support of bikes and made this day possible. In particular, thanks to the Mayor’s Office and Helen Anderson for all their dedication to make Provo a bikable city. And, thanks to UTA and Stacey Adamson for all their hard work organizing this event!

Remember, Bike to Work Day is just one event in the Provo Bike Week series. Even if you missed this morning’s event, you can still make it to tonight’s bike-in movie, BYU’s bike-to-school day tomorrow, and various rides throughout the week.

  1. There are two community based rides that the mad dog race team and shop puts on each week. One is a family ride each monday at6 pm usually leaving the orem store and the other is a mountain bike ride on Thursday evenings, location varies. Phone the shop and find out more details on these rides.
