What happens in tomorrow’s city council meeting will, in part, determine what kind of city Provo will be and whether or not bicycling and pedestrian families will be safe and welcomed on Provo’s roads in the coming years.
For the last few weeks, the Provo City Council has been considering a Pedestrian and Bicycle Pathways map that has been in the works for over three years. The map calls for dozens of new bicycle paths and pedestrian trails in the areas that need it most. This will be a major improvement to our city and will help put us on the map with other bicycle and pedestrian-friendly cities such as Portland and Boulder. If the map is not included in the General Plan at tomorrow’s meeting, there will not be another chance to include it for at least 5 years and it may never happen.
What You Can Do: Please come to the meeting, share your experiences as a bicycle rider or pedestrian during the public comments period, and respectfully ask the council to support the map as a part of the general plan in their vote.
