Provo Walk of Silence: January 27, 2014

walk of silence

Rosa Merino, a single mother of three teenage daughters, was killed by an automobile at 700 North and University Avenue on the morning of January 15 as she walked to work.

The Provo Walkability Committee, an affiliate of the Provo Bicycle Committee, invites concerned residents to participate in a Candle Light Walk of Silence next Monday, January 27, at 6 p.m. The purpose of the Walk is three-fold:

1) to raise money for her bereaved daughters,

2) to bring attention to the consequences of inattentive and distracted driving, and

3) to remind pedestrians to cross streets carefully.

The walk will begin at the County Courthouse (southeast corner of Center and University) soon after 6, proceed to the front of the Provo Library for a short break and some remarks and then to the scene of the accident at 700 North and then return to the courthouse. The Provo Police will be providing a bike police escort.

The walk to help this family and make Provo safer for all families would be a great activity for a family home evening. Participants are encouraged to make a donation to “The Three Merino Girls” account at any Wells Fargo Bank, which is working with the Fraternal Order of Police to raise money for the daughters. If you would like our community to be safe for all road-users, families, and individuals of all ages, please join us on Monday night. Bring your own candles or use one of ours till they run out.

Please join our Facebook event and download the PDF flier to pass out to your friends and neighbors.
